Better accuracy potential, better life, less recoil more than makes up for a few FPS the 7mm rem may offer., There is an improved version of the 284 win called the 284 Shehane but technically it shouldn't be called an Ackley Improved. If I had to do it again. I may have gone with an 280AI or 7mm-08 to start with instead of a 7mm WSM, because of having more complete powder burn for a shorter barrel. But then the grass is always greener on the other side. On the other hand the extra velocity of the 7mm WSM is nice., the only AI that I have liked is a .220 Swift AI. The 280 AI is "new" as a SAAMI cartridge, but has been a popular wildcat since the 60s., The 7mm-08 hits this minimum at 865 yards, the 280 Remington does it at 920, and the 280 AI does it at 965 yards.
