So I watched the artifact ending on YouTube on Sunday, and several things stood out to me in connection to Robert W. Chambers' "The Mask", the second short story in The King in Yellow. (As an aside, during my research for this post I discovered that the cover used in SIGNALIS is heavily inspired by the original 1895 cover for The King in Yellow .

The second story, "The Mask", is of particular importance to the endings, as I believe it explains the symbolism of the Lily in the Artifact ending. Ambrose Bierce's "An Inhabitant of Carcosa": a very short story/prose poem that was an inspiration of Chambers. Less immediately important but its text/imagery is frequently evoked in SignalisRecently I finished Signalis and here's my interpretation of the "Ending(s)". I've concluded that no matter which Ending you get if you understand the totality of the circumstances they are all the same (negating the "Artifact" Ending and I'll explain why further down). The true Ending is that no matter what Elster does it actually does NOT ...My Total Pure Playtime was 5:30 hours so the memory ending overrides the leave ending. I'll explain more of this at the end with my own experience but this is something to keep in mind. Kills >90 = +1 death. Kills >120 = +1 death. Damage taken >1900 = +1 death. Deaths > 5 = +1 death.
