So to preface, I've been starting off my campaigns in the nation of origin for the characters. My goal is to keep totally purist armies, I don't want to mix faction units. That being said, Battanians have so much appeal but its like they just put them in the game to get steamrolled. I feel like they're so thematic (maybe the most so), but their learning curve is a hard one to navigate.

I'd say Battania wins on a field with any terrain advantage over cav and half the time without. Fians and flanking skirmishers are extremely lethal without the threat of cav. It seems battania is low on every type of unit that isn't infantry in villages. I want lots of cavalry and archers but the only way I currently get them is through forest bandits which takes ages.
