Cowboy Star needs to do a whole lot better to justify their prices. Yes, the ambiance is nice, the staff ever present but not overbearing, and the menu interesting but it's all for nothing if the food isn't up to scratch. I gather that this restaurant was voted best steakhouse in San Diego by critics.

The San Diego native from Lakeside and 4-H Club Member for most of her youth laments the lack of connection between diners and their food - ideals that have formed Cowboy Star’s character. She also describes the restaurant as a mix of Cowboy and Hollywood, and an unintentional, though welcome homage to her grandfather. The decor is classic and Western/cowboy (ha), whereas Born and Raised has more of a modern and "hip" vibe-lots of black and gold and interesting decorations like old movie projectors. Cowboy Star is much smaller, maybe 25 tables, Born and Raised is huge and has two floors. B+R also puts on more of a "show".
