As I understand it, the pair valve is something Honda put on the bike because of the emmissions laws (something about diluting the exhaust gas). It allows more air into the bike than you really need/want, and is not good for getting the bike running well. The owners manual only says to use a minimum 86 octane. I have always used premium in my other bikes., I know the 1300 starts out with 52 hp at the rear wheel, I have done the air box mod and drilled the pipes for a gain of 5 hp ( at the rear wheel).
