The best thing about the KLR650 was that is was relatively unchanged for such a long time. Calm down Dave, it's 208 kg kerbweight which is only a couple more than the 660 tenerlady single, plenty of folks have managed to go places on those and in the US at least the old KLR had a big following. It's a cheap workhorse bike, probably run forever on not much fuel or maintenance .The klr is a good cheap, light weight touring bike if you want it to be. There isnt much in the price range with the weather protection, range, and plush ride. Other options are... Vstrom - more street, more weight, more money, stronger motor. I'm thinking of getting a KLR over a Honda Shadow or Yamaha Vstar 650, cause the mexican streets are brutal, potholes, dirt, uneven, big ass street bumps, and my rebel is too low, it scrapes at times. Having said this, is it a good everyday commuter bike, I know for the mexican streets it'll be great.
